Sebelum mengetahui perancangan basis data  kita harus tahu dulu apa itu Basis Data ?

Basis Data

Data  bisa menjadi informasi  tanpa diolah. Dan data juga dapat diolah menjadi informasi  dan pengetahuan.

Jadi Basis Data yaitu kumpulan data yang disimpan secara sistematis di dalam komputer yang dapat di olah atau di manipulasi menggunakan perangkat lunak untuk menghasilkan informasi. Basis data juga bisa berbentuk tabel yang terdiri dari baris dan kolom, biasanya di dalam tabel harus ada record (isi atau nyimpan data).

Sistem Manajemen Basis Data

Sistem Manajemen Basis Data merupakan suatu sistem atau perangkat lunak yang dirancang untuk mengelola suatu basis data dan menjalankan operasi terhadap data yang diminta banyak pengguna.

DBMS ( Database Management System )

 DBMS ( Database Management System ) merupakan general purpose software yang digunakan untuk :

v  Mendefenisikan

v  Mengkonstrusi

v  Memanipulasi

Contoh Berbagai aplikasi basis data yang dapat digunakan : MySQL, TERADATA, SQLite, ORACLE , dll.

Sistem Database :

v  Sistem merupakan komponen atau suatu kumpulan elemen-elemen yang bekerja sama untuk mencapai suatu  tujuan.

v  Database merupakan kumpulan data yang saling berhubungan yang disimpan secara bersama tanpa ada pengulangan data.

Jadi sistem database yaitu suatu kumpulan data yang bekerja sama dan berhubungan dengan data yang disimpan tanpa ada pengulangan data untuk mencapai tujuaannya.

Komponen  Utama Basis Data yaitu ; perangkat keras(Hardware), sistem operasi , basis data, sistem, pemakai, aplikasi.

Sistem Berkas

   Sistem Berkas merupakan suatu sistem untuk mengetahui bagaimana cara menyimpan data dari file tertentu dan organisasi  file yang digunakan.

v  Pendekatan basis data berkembang karena kelemahan pendekatan sistem berkas yang berkembang sebelumnya.

v  Pengaksesan file dilakukan dengan bergbagai metode( Random, berurutan, dengan indeks).

Masalah pada Sistem Berkas

v  Adanya ketergantungan antara program dan data.

v  Duplikasi data.

v  Data kurang terstruktur.
